"Gratitude is an appreciation of your life right now, versus where you want it to be.”

Dr. Robert Emmons, The Psychology of Gratitude

*Noted in this book: People who write down the things they are grateful for every day have stronger immune systems, more happiness, and less reaction to negative events.

“Everybody can be great.”…

January16

~Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.~

Everybody can be great.  Because anybody can serve.  You don't have to have a college degree to serve.  You don't have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve.... You don't have to know the second theory of thermodynamics in physics to serve.  You only need a heart full of grace.  A soul generated by love.  - Martin Luther King Jr.

"Apologizing does not always mean that you were wrong and the other person was right.

It just means you value your relationship more than your ego."

New Year’s Revolution!

January9

New Year's Resolution ~ NO!

New Year's Revolution ~ YES!!!

What is a revolution?  Revolution is “a far-reaching a drastic change, especially in ideas or methods.”  So, this New Year we are throwing out the resolution and having a one-word revolution instead.   I have always been somewhat of a rebel, so this revolution is my type of plan.  Many people are talking about trying this new way of making life changes this year and I encourage you to join us by picking one word for the year.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking. Cognitive-behavioral therapy is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel / act better, even if the situation does not change.  I have observed how changing the way you think about things can actually free you and improve your life.  Our negative thinking can actually become automatic, so using a positive word will help you to change your thinking.
Here’s a list of possible words to use:
  • Abundance
  • Adventure
  • Acceptance
  • Action
  • Assertive
  • Authentic
  • Change
  • Clarity
  • Compassion
  • Commitment
  • Confidence
  • Courage
  • Creative
  • Cultivate
  • Dream
  • Explore
  • Focus
  • Forgiveness
  • Freedom
  • Friendship
  • Fun
  • Generosity
  • Gentleness
  • Grace
  • Gratitude
  • Growth
  • Healing
  • Health
  • Hope
  • Intentional
  • Joy
  • Kindness
  • Laughter
  • Love
  • Motivation
  • Openness
  • Patience
  • Positive
  • Prayerful
  • Presence
  • Purposeful
  • Self-Love
  • Trust
  • Willingness
Read through the list and decide what you would like your focus to be for the coming year.  There are many more possibilities, however this will get you thinking.  What do you want for yourself?  Let me know what your word is and we will work on this together.  My word for the coming year is:  SIMPLIFY!  Those of you that know me know that this is going to be a challenge, but I will be intentional about making changes in my life that get rid of the extras.  I am choosing to rid myself of the things that clutter my life and interfere with my happiness.  I will keep you posted on my personal revolution.  What is yours?

We pray for blessings
We pray for peace
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
We pray for healing, for prosperity
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
All the while, You hear each spoken need
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

(Chorus)
'Cause what if your blessings come through raindrops
What if Your healing comes through tears
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

We pray for wisdom
Your voice to hear
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
We doubt your goodness, we doubt your love
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
All the while, You hear each desperate plea
As long as we have faith to believe

Chorus

When friends betray us
When darkness seems to win
We know the pain reminds this heart
That this is not, this is not our home

Chorus

What if my greatest disappointments
Or the aching of this life
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
What if trials of this life
The rain, the storms, the hardest nights
Are your mercies in disguise
